About the event

RealPlay: Practicing difficult conversations with Actors

RealPlay is a facilitated approach to understanding and managing the behaviours we encounter in challenging conversations and meetings. It allows us to witness the impact of specific behaviours and how they can transform the outcome of a meeting.

In this RealPlay Espresso Session you will:

• Observe how a challenging conversation can be impacted by behaviours.

• Experience the impact of a change of tone, language or body language.

• Learn through observation and practical application, simple and effective approaches to achieving better outcomes from your own conversations and meetings.

In RealPlay, we watch a business-relevant conversation played out by professional actors. The conversation is bespoke to the professional theme – a conversation between manager and report, a disciplinary meeting, a coaching session, a performance review.

After observing the meeting, the facilitator explores with the audience what they have seen and heard, and what the actors could do differently to achieve a better outcome from the conversation.

Taking on the feedback from the audience, the actors replay the conversation. The audience can now stop, start and rewind the conversation whenever there is anything they see or hear that they feel could be improved upon.

Effectively, the audience coaches the actors towards a better outcome, whilst witnessing the direct impact of the suggestions they offer.

Realplay is a form of experiential learning that brings an interactive, engaging and fun element to development and works effectively in both virtual and face-to-face settings.
